Heady also was entered in her 1st OPEN trial and here is what happen.

We already did the honor stuff out of site and she past that. Now it is her and my turn and I am more nervous than when I went in to the final Top Ten…Heady had a lot of dumbbell trouble that we had to work thru so I was hoping that she at least will go and get the dumbbell…

Healing & figure 8 was ok she can be better but ok…drop on recall…yippee she did it and then the retrieve on the flat…I am getting her all excided and throw it she gets it… you should have seen my smile, so big ) and then the retrieve over the high jump…I throw the thing way too far and it lands almost at the end of the ring. I know she cannot see it so will she do it?… I send her and she clears the jump grabs the dumbbell and comes flying back in to a perfect front…I hardly could wait to finish her before I jumped up and down…we did it, the rest I did not care. She did the broad jump and we qualified up to that point…3 minutes sit out of side…ok we did not practice that much and I was maybe to confident. 22 seconds before the 3 minutes were over she laid down…NQ was I sad? Yes a little bit but I was so happy about the dumbbell that I really did not care that much. Yes it would have been nice to take the 1st leg in open home after 8+ years but hay it’s all ok there are many more trials to come and I know we can do it … Silke

Maggie’s philosophy: I believe my dogs, and those of my students, can and will do anything we ask of them. From the Bassett hound to the pug to the border collie, each dog brings something unique to this game we play. Each has a lesson to share when we are ready to learn it. It is our challenge as trainers to give to our dogs what we expect from them…focus, energy, humor, patience, persistence, consistency, feedback and fun! When we approach training as a game, we build a partnership based on play with the “want to” balanced by the “have to” and we teach our dogs how to win! Throw in a bit of laughter and I believe each
dog is capable of working with attitude and joy. I really do!

…is still flying on cloud #9 after a fantastic weekend in Harrisonburg VA @ Shenandoah Valley Kennel Club April 10/11, 2010

Saturday:

Ruger took a reserve in the breed ring with his new favorite friend Lisa Hundley and then got his 1st AKC Rally Advanced leg with a score of 90 ) Silly boy choose to show everybody that he likes to be an agility dog. Took the jump 2 times, called him off once but the next time there was no way it was just to tempting…glad to see that he had fun )

Sunday:

Even though we had a ring time and judge change Lisa decided to stay to show Ruger. And what a good thing because the new “DREAM TEAM” took the “POINT”… I cried ) …. don’t know how I got home, I think I flew on that cloud called #9. Still up there … the view is great … can somebody please throw me an anchor so I can come and teach class tonight????

My sister-in-law sent this to us …

Got this from another chat group …. with permission to cross post
…

Last night at agility class, a vet, who is a fellow agility student
was telling us about a case she had this week. The dog ate a child’s teddy
bear and was very sick. When she opened the dog up to remove what she
thought was an intestinal obstruction she found a huge gelatin type mess
inside and the dogs intestines were black and the tissue dead. The dog will
die no surgery can fix him up there was no living intestine left from
stomach to colon.

This was not an obstruction.

…. so
she called the manufacturer of the Teddy Bear on a quest to find out what
the gel was and what killed the dog. Turns out the stuffing in children’s
toys contains ingredients for flame retardants and mite control! It is
designed to be come a gel. It is highly toxic. Now you would think a child’s
toy would be safe because it is for children, but they don’t expect a child
to eat the stuffing of the toys… huummmm that seems a bit scary too. But
we all know dogs demolish stuffed toys.

So do not give or buy
your dog any children’s stuffed animals… some people get them at goodwill
etc. The vet will be posting a warning and story and I will send any other
facts as needed and as I learn more. Maybe some children’s toys do not have
this ingredient, but better to be safe then sorry. So meanwhile, make sure
all your dog toys are for dogs.

Please pass this on… it is a horrible
death she described and one that can be avoided.

Exhibitors enjoy these shows very much. You receive a written critique from the Judge. You also, have a chance to earn International UCI Titles sanctioned by Union Cynologie Internationale in Germany.Judges enjoy judging these shows for several reasons: they have a chance to speak with the exhibitors. There are no time limits on the judge. They can spend as much time as they need with each entry. The dogs compete against the standard and not against each other. If they are judged excellent to the standard they may receive an International Title. Please note rules for Puppies and adults are different as far as titles are concerned. Pups and Adults never compete against each other. We have a BIS adult and BIS pup. We spotlight the breeder handlers with a Best Bred-by in Show competition. We have groups and BIS and an ultimate BIS for the 4 shows of the weekend where all BIS compete for Grand Sieger. This is our first show weekend in Virginia . We look forward to meeting all of the dog lovers in VA.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask. You can also check out our website at www.iabca.com

Feb. 13/14 2010 UKC weekend Brag:

Rally: Ruger got at 97 and therefore his RO1 title. Heady got a 98 (3rd Place) and also got her RO1 title. Both dogs moved up to Rally Level 2 (OFF Leash) and both Qualified “Yippee”. Ruger with an 84 and Heady with a 99 (3rd Place) they had some great competition there this weekend.

In show: Ruger pulled it together again. That little man was in the show ring 12 times and came out with placements and ribbons 11 times. He took Breed every time and he also got 3 Group 1 placements and 2 Reserve Best In Multi Breed.

Also Ruger was awarded 2 “Total Dog” awards. (2 more ribbons)

All in all, I was in the ring with my dogs 16 times and walked out with 15 ribbons and came home with 17 ribbons. If this goes on like that I will have to add on to the house…

Happy Training!
